We are moving towards a different landscape. It is a landscape full of expectation and hope. It is also a landscape full of uncertainty. Human beings react differently to stress. Some see constraint as an opportunity to do something completely different, others crave a safe place, surrounded by familiar things. For A/W 2022/23, we seek to embrace both of these attitudes in our palettes.
Firstly, we reflect a feeling of ‘new’ liberation. From science to the creative industries, there is a focus on innovation and collaborative ways of working. Our need for joy and unexpected delight has never seemed so important.
Secondly, we think about the need for comfort, clarity and security. Cocooning becomes an imperative, while nostalgia for what we see as a happier and better past dictates our preferences.
Thus our colour philosophy for A/W 22/23 is all about balance. A balance that combines the safety and security that everyone wants and needs with a desire for hedonism adventure and fun. Put simply, our palettes go in two directions – colour that soothes and colour that kicks!
The former is bound by security in a fundamental palette of greys, blacks and navies, all perfectly executed and chosen with thought and care. For the latter, we jump into rich levels of colour that speak both of the digital with its technical pastels and loaded lilacs and the playful inspired by urban, multicultural creativity.
