LUMINARY #26 Sensory Perception by Anna Starmer

From Anna Starmer: In Issue 26 reflects our heightened awareness of all of the senses; an emotional response to lockdown, WFH and isolation. We long for tactile gratification, aromatic sensations and visionary beauty. The stimuli and frequencies which surround us must inspire and delight, we crave interactive, immersive experiences. We are sensitive, responsive and reactive creatures. As we pay closer attention to the sensations, atmosphere and energies which surround us, we become more intune with our environment. It is sensorial experiences that make us happy, lift us out of the mundane and ignite our passion for creativity.

Issue 26 Stories (a/w 2023-24):

1. Abundant
2. Embody
3. Unravel
4. Elemental
5. Limitless
6. Intuition

Sensory Perception
Colour is not simply a visionary thing that we see with our eyes, as designers there are so many layers to how we create colour, materials and objects. Human beings are incredibly perceptive, and we design using all of our senses. Our sensory perceptions lead us to be deeply aware of our environment and of our own body. In Issue 26 we look to all of the senses, how they input and influence the ways in which we create, design and choose colour.

Colour Origin
We are obsessed with the origin of colour, where the pigment and the dyestuff have come from. We have 2 colours in this story from Archroma’s EarthColors® range; Diresul® Earth-Sand is manufactured using 90% bitter orange residues from the herbal industries, Diresul® Earth-Clay is a colour derived from beet residues from food industries. LNC-2015 sappanwood is a dye extracted from the heartwood of the Redwood tree, our source is from a sustainably managed plantation in India.

Luminary is a Visionary Colour Research Studio.
Luminary is the vision of Colour and Futures Consultant, Anna Starmer. Each book is hand made in the UK with a team of design specialists, we create authoritative inspiration and absolutely key colours for the global design industries. Our stories transcend season, our work is deep-rooted, with  long-term intentions for a more beautiful future Earth.

“Anna shows us colour through a REvitalized lens. Luminary offers us all the chance to REthink how we live and how we design, it is a deeper understanding of the innovative nature of design and its boundless potential to drive social change.”
