CONTENTS VIEW 149

(Published January 2025)

As we approach another season, new challenges arise in seeking a positive path forward. The world is wrought with many weighty issues: climate change, an expanding divide between those that have wealth and those who live in poverty and poor health, the continued displacement of people and leadership and governments that appear to be closing possibilities for shared goals and collaborative solutions.  We are glad to be able to shine a light on those brave and insightful people who put planet and people first and open a pathway of hope. Amongst those is Foday Dumbuya, who founded Labrum in 2014. He was born in Sierra Leone, moved to Cyprus and then to London when he was 12. His collections and collaborations seek to blend all his personal loves resulting in an inspiring mix of clothing that crosses borders, personal experiences and genders – a way forward that interconnects rather than divides.  We also pay particular attention to designers who explore nature as a source of wonder and wisdom. We see innovations that lead to sustainable solutions for planetary health as well as offering benefits to human health and wellbeing. Innovative thinkers who are prepared to take courageous steps towards a protected future for the many. Other seers venture into the universe, imagined or speculative: delving into the imagination, the mystical and the transcendental. However, there is always room for the humble where simple values such as sharing and collaboration matter, working towards a kinder world.

Future matters

Smart solutions – the path to transparency: the importance of traceability for fashion’s future.
The future of making – by challenging fashion’s role as a mere commodity, outsiders elevate fashion to a cultural force rather than just a consumer product.
