Measurment of visual lightness:
Place the meter on top of the sample of which the lightness is to be determined. The borderline between the saple and the greys of the meter appears to vary in distinctness. Where this borderline is least distinct, the grey and the sample behind it are equally light. Read off the luminous reflectance factor Y, or the lightness value V.
